How to Track a Cell Phone and Show its Location




Loosing  your cell phone or being stolen is a terrible experience. We keep a lot of personal information on our mobile phones. Ranging from financial , family photographs , medical information, and some other details.
To assist in locating a lost phone,Google and Apple have developed means to track down  a lost phone irrespective of the operating system. The feature may be in-built, you will require to set it up and be able to access it.

Locating a lost iPhone


Apple's version is known as Find My iPhone. This service is also able to track any and all  iOS devices (not to mention any Mac also associated with your Apple ID). To configure it on your iPhone, take the steps below:
1.Launch the Settings app on your iPhone
2.Scroll down and tap on "iCloud." 
3.Near the bottom of the list, find and select "Find My iPhone."
4.Slide the switch next to Find My iPhone to the On position.While you're there, it's a good idea to turn on Send Last Location as well (more on this in a minute). 
Having Find My iPhone enabled, you can track a missing or stolen device using the Find My iPhone app on another iOS device or by visiting iCloud.com and log in to your iCloud account. When tracking a device from either the app or iCloud website, you can lock it with a new passcode, track where the device is currently located and all the various places it has been, and as a last resort, you can totally erase all contents of the device.


Know that your iPhone will be turned on and connected to the Internet,via a cellular connection or Wi-Fi ,for the service to work. So if a thief grabs your phone and quickly switches it off, you are
unlucky until it is switched on and able to connect to a network. If Send Last Location is enabled, your iPhone will automatically report its last location. This can not assist you reveal the exact spot of the device if it's been moved after the battery becomes flat, but it will give you  a good start to commence tracking down your device.
To disable Find My iPhone on a device, Apple wants the user to approve the change using his or her Apple ID password. In effect,if a thief grabs your device they will not be able to disable Find My iPhone altogether unless they know your password.

Locating a missing Android phone


Google's Android Device Manager operates the same way as Apple's Find My iPhone. The service is not pre-installed, however, you have to download the app via the Play Store and configure it in order to use it. The steps are as follows :
1.Search through the Play Store for Android Device Manager.
2.Install the app, and  login/sign in with your Google account.  
3.Make sure to uncheck  the "Never Ask Me Again" box. If left checked, anybody able to access your device will be able to disable the feature ori track your other devices. 
If you lose your device, you can use another Android device to track your phone via the app, or go to Google's Android Device Manager website. You need to log/sign into the site with the same Google account you used to sign/login into the app on your phone.
Using the app, you are able play a sound on the device, lock it, or totally erase it. As for the iPhone, if the device is switched off ,you are not able to track it until it is switched back on and connected to a network.

Locating other types of mobile phones


Android and iOS are the major mobile phones currently in use today. Windows Phone need to follow the instructions laid out by Microsoft .Follow the steps below:
1.Go to account.microsoft.com/devices. If you're prompted to sign in, use the same Microsoft account you used to sign in on your phone.
2.Choose the phone you want to find, and then click Find My Phone.
3.You'll see a map with your phone's location. You can zoom in or out to get a better view.
BlackBerry 10 users can also track a lost device using BlackBerry Protect. If you're still clutching onto a flip phone, odds are you won't have the ability to track your phone in the event it goes missing. Sorry.
Follow the below steps to enable location reporting:
1.Click “Blackberry Protect” on home screen or a folder.
2.Click on “Menu” and select “options”.
3.Select Check Box in front of “I want this device’s location to be viewable from the BlackBerry Protect web site” in location reporting section.
In order to see blackberry location, follow the below steps:
1.Open BlackBerry Protect website in your PC or phone.
2.Login with your BlackBerry® ID.
3.Click on “View Location”. Now wait till Blackberry protect find your device and show the location on the map.
4.It uses GPS on your phone. Data plan must be active to use such features.
